At the Italian Center in January and February 2012

January 28, 2012: Film "Tree of Wooden Clogs" (L'Albero degli zoccoli; titled is a 1978 Italian film written and directed by Ermanno Olmi. The film concerns Lombard peasant life in a cascina (farmhouse) of the late 19th century. It has some similarities with the earlier Italian neorealist movement, in that it focuses on the lives of the poor, and the parts were played by real farmers and locals, rather than professional actors. It won fourteen awards including the Palme d'or at Cannes and the César Award for Best Foreign Film. The original version of the movie is spoken in Bergamasque, an Eastern Lombard dialect. "Siskel and Ebert" considered Tree of Wooden Clogs one of the Top Ten Films ever! (running time 3 hours with intermission)
February 12, 2012: Meet the Author. "Innocent War" Meet Author Susan Violante who has written a heartwarming story of a family caught up in the hardships, tragedies and dangers of World War II.
February 26, 2012: Bobby Darin - "Beyond the Song" A dazzling profile of an incomparable entertainer. Beyond The Song is a quintessential tribute to an innovative performer. This engaging film documentary traces Darin’s career from the first television appearance in 1956 to his last in 1973.
March 4, 2012: Italian Cooking Show - A Spring Feast with Franca Brida Lingren and the Italian Center Volunteers. Don't miss our annual cooking show. Popular cooking instructor and author Franca Brida Lingren will teach us how to make some delectable Spring favorites. This is one of the year's most popular events. Reserve Early!!

Winter Language Classes will Start the Week of January 9, 2012
Learn Italian Live the the Passion! The Italian Cultural Society has been teaching
Italian in a dynamic and friendly atmosphere for over 28 years.
Our classes are taught by professional, experienced teachers and
native speakers following a proven curriculum. The School is accredited and approved by the Italian Consulate. We offer high-school and college credit for students who successfully complete our program. Our popular Italian
classes will be offered at both the Carmichael and the Sierra 2
campus of the Italian Cultural Society. The Ponte Winter Classes and the Summer Classes
offer continuing students a great way to brush up and to stay connected to Italian.
Our Summer program offers conversation and review for various levels of
Italian, in the summer we will also offer out popular Italian for
Travelers class. Several conversation classes are offered for
continuing students who want to practice speaking Italian in a relaxed
teacher led atmosphere. You can learn Italian and have fun at the same
time! Every Italian Cultural Society class stresses the pleasure of the
Italian language and culture and find that the most effective learning
happens The Italian Language School We offer classes year round.

Ciao Italia and Ciao Piccoli Italian Language and Culture
for Kids
We have classes for children ages 2 to 12!
The Italian Language School has developed very special Language and
Heritage programs for bambini. Our Italian Language Programs brings
Italian language to the many children who do not have Italian offered
in their school. The Italian Cultural Society offers year round
language programs with small teacher to student ratio. Our fun-filled
programs are designed to let children explore Italy, its rich culture,
food, art and language in a fun setting. The Italian Cultural Society
encourages all children to participate. This is a wonderful opportunity
to learn one of the world's most beautiful languages. l'Italiano!

FESTA ITALIANA Voted Northern California's Best Italian Festival!

2012 will make the 27th anniversary of Festa Italiana. This beautiful Italian community event features delicious Italian food and drink and stellar
entertainers. There will be an Italian Marketplace, a Children's games and rides area, bocce ball, Italian cars, motorcycles and much more entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. We invite everyone to come out and celebrate Italian
heritage with us. Don't miss Festa Italiana Northern California's
Italian community gathering for two days of Italian cuisine, music,
dancing, fun and friendship.
2012 FESTA ITALIANA QUEEN SCHOLARSHIP
The Festa Italiana Scholarship is open to all young women of Italian descent ages 16 to 22. The $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded at Festa Italiana on Saturday, August 4, 2012. | Bambini Dancers Kick up their
Heels
Our
Children's Folk dance group allows kids to learn Italian culture through
dance. Children receive lessons and attend practices and perform
throughout the year. This is a fun way to introduce your child to
Italian culture and dance. All Children are invited to join the BAMBINI
DANCERS!!

Our new Italian Center represents the hopes, dreams and
aspirations of the Italian Community of Northern California. Now the Italian community has a home of our own where we can celebrate our cultural heritage
and build and grow our community. We owe our thanks to the many people who
donated their hard-earned money to be part of the dream. We thank all
the many people who made a difference and cared enough to contribute to
make this dream a reality.
The new center is fully operational and serves thousands of people each year. The Italian Center serves as the second
campus of the Italian Language School for adults, elementary school and pre-school children. The Italian Center is the home to our Italian library, the Balliamo! and the Bambini folk dance troupes, the film and lecture series, and to all of the Italian Cultural Society's Heritage programs.
Your tax deductible gift will help the Italian Center serve the cultural needs of our community by providing unique programs which preserve our rich heritage. Please give generously.

 | Gioventu' Italiana
Gioventu' is the Italian Cultural Society's young Italians welcoming
people 18 - 40 interested in exploring Italian and Italian American
culture in the Sacramento area. Explore and enjoy all aspects of
Italian culture with us! Members include single, married and fluent
speakers of the Italian language. If you are not Italian don't worry!
If you cherish the culture as we do - Italians and Italian Americans
can share, enjoy and explore Italian culture. The group meets monthly
for an Italian Style Spaghettata and many other fun events.

SACRAMENTO – The Commission
on Teacher Credentialing approved the Northern
California based Italian Cultural Society as the assessor agency
for teaching credentials. In an effort to preserve and promote Italian Cultural Language and Culture the Italian Cultural Society will offer the Italian Language section of the California Exam for a Single Subject teaching credential in Italian.
